Disclaimer: I'm a PC player, so I only have 25 games a weekend versus 40 on consoles.Long story short, I've been playing 'meta' formations, but I never really enjoyed playing them at all. They're just way too limiting for me and, idk, I just felt like I was engaging in a game of 'who breaks first' versus a game of actual football. I digress. To curb this, I've been trying formations that are potentially viable in the WL, which I acknowledge is a totally different FIFA beast. In comes the 442.I just got Elite 3 and Elite 2 the past two weeks with this formation and I've been using it for all my squad battles so I've spent some time with it.The 'philosophy':.The main thing I enjoy about 442 is how flexible it is. No need for sweaty formation changes or anything like that.

Any tactical adjustments needed can be made manually with the players you control because. This formation can either stand as a counter-attacking formation with two blocks of four, or it can become a diamond based on how you use the wingers/midfielders; you're free to bomb forward with the fullbacks cause you have wing/midfield coverage, one of your strikers can drop deep or they can both play wide, you may have one of your wingers serve as a wide playmaker, etc. You get the idea. 442 is entirely what you shape it to be.That being said. Transition is the name of the game here. This formation IS NOT WL viable if you can't quickly read the transition game. This isn't like the other meta formations where it's easier to find your forwards. This is going to take a little more work on your end.Player archetypes:Another Disclaimer: I have a million dollar squad with players who fit the 442 perfectly.

To that effect, I will post cheaper alternatives at the end of the post. Here's my team:Goalie: Having a goalie who can distribute is helpful.Centerbacks: These guys need to be able to play in space to offset the chance they get exposed on the counter. You need athletic (not necessarily fast) defenders who can play the ball.Fullbacks: This is really up to you. I like my fullbacks to bomb forward so I use players who are good on the ball. You can also play more traditional fullbacks if you want to.Central midfielders: This is the most important part of the formation. You need central midfielders who can either protect the centerbacks or play behind the strikers with the flip of a switch.

These two have to be completely flexible and that flexibility needs to happen without compromising your team. For my team, I'm comfortable with Verratti and Vidal regardless of where they are on the pitch. By virtue, these types of midfielders are just gonna be more expensive.Wide midfielders: Again this is completely up to you. Want pacey forwards like Robben?

Want wide playmakers who can drop into the center of the pitch and operate like Bernardo Silva? Want more defensive-minded wingers to help shutdown the opponents flanks?

Go for it.Strikers: I would generally have one striker who can hold the ball up and one who can find the space for the other to play through. I also understand that having Lewandowski and Neymar up top make things infinitely easier.Custom Tactics and Player Instructions and Why:Build up PlaySpeed: 40Passing: 35Positioning: OrganisedBuild up patiently and let your players find their spots on the field.

Use the central midfielders and the fullbacks to build play up.Chance CreationPassing: 45Crossing: 80Shooting: 30Positioning: Free formI cross a lot because it helps with the bus-parking during the weekend. Nothing out of the ordinary here. There is room for risky play here, but I generally keep it honest here.DefensePressure: 65Aggression: 65Team Width: 30Defender Line: CoverDon't be scared to make a tackle because there is backup from your midfielders in case you whiff. If you win the tackle, start your transition reads and make a play.My central midfielder, defender, and forward settings are kept default. The wingers are totally up to how you're gonna play with them. For me, Robben is set to cut inside and Lemar is set to stay wide and come short because he serves as more of a LAM then a left winger.Alternate, cheaper teams:My team:Cheaper EPL:Cheaper La Liga:Cheaper Bundesliga:Cheaper Serie A:Cheaper Ligue 1:Thanks for reading and enjoy!.
