Slaves provide the work force for this plantation as slavery is continued in this new country. A 12 year old girl and her family flee Hampton and the Union army and become refugees at Weston, only to find themselves once more living in a war zone. An immigrant family begins a new life at Weston during the unsettled postwar period.In 2008 HHF opened 2 new structures on the site. After extensive archeological research the two main dependencies were reconstructed – the summer kitchen and the laundry. These structures allow us to expand the stories we tell and include all those who lived on the site.
